Inspo
Let me first start with some disclaimers…
I am by no means an interior decorator! LOL. I am not an expert but I do believe in freedom in the realm of creativity! Especially within the parameters of your own space. With that being said, I don’t believe there is a wrong or right way to create a table setting. Do what you feel and what you want! As long as you are filled and happy with what you yourself created. Nothing is off limits. I don’t limit myself and I encourage you to not limit yourself or feel like you need to fit into a box (this is a word for LIFE as well LOL). So don’t feel pressured to do exactly what you see or use everything that you see. But if you do, that's fine too! Whatever you do, HAVE FUN, and take pics! I wanna see what you created.
Back to the inspo….
I have no idea where my desire for table settings came from! I think once we began to host dinners in our home, my creativity in this area sparked. I didn’t grow up with table settings and I haven’t been to a ton of events with them. I blame Pinterest honestly LOL. That’s where most of my table setting decor inspo comes from. I try to use colors that aren’t typical “holiday” colors and Pinterest is very helpful for choosing colors and being exposed to different styles. This table setting specifically, was sparked with terra cotta inspired table settings I found. That was my base and I worked my way up from there.
I wanted to keep the colors and vibe fall but not too fall. Like I didn’t want to overdo it on the pumpkins and the basic go-to fall colors. But I wanted it to still feel fall and warm. I think the darker, muted colors were the perfect blend of a modern terracotta themed thanksgiving. Hopefully you become inspired to try this look and put your own spin on it.
Table Runner
Truthfully, I don’t remember the last time I bought an actual “table runner” in the kitchen section at a store. Earlier this year I had a vision for a particular look and the kitchen decor sections just weren’t giving me what I was looking for. I was in Hobby Lobby one day in the fabric section and I was like I can totally use fabric as a table runner. YES FABRIC! After all, that’s all a table runner usually is. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of this sooner. I found exactly what I was looking for and I bought about 4 yards of this beautiful pink velvet fabric to use as my table runner. It’s gorg! I probably will never buy a table runner out of the kitchen section again and here’s why. I feel like I’m always settling with the small amount of looks/styles that they decide to release based on the trends during that time. I don’t always flow with trends. I can be more original and there are way more fabric options! Also, buying this fabric was a little cheaper than buying the regular table runners out of let’s say, Target. Fabric may also be a great alternative as napkins! I think that’s my next try.
Plate Setting
Plates
Gold trim, white plates. We got these plates a white back and I cannot remember where we got them from. More than likely Target.
Chargers
Chargers are usually seen underneath the plate at a table. The add to the decor, create layers and depth within the overall table and they help catch any food droppings! They make the aftermath of cleaning a bit easier. Hobby Lobby is my go to for buying chargers. I saw these gold chargers and I knew they’d be the perfect touch.
Napkins
World Market! They have such a great color variety and section of napkins. This is usually where I go for washable napkins. Next time I may try some fabric.
Name plates + Coasters
Both the name plates and coasters are just terra cotta plant bottoms! Crazy right! Super inexpensive, reusable and minimal. To personalize it, just use a chalk marker and write names or whatever you please on the inside. I’ll probably paint them at some point to match another theme that I try in the future!
Cups
World market again! I didn’t want any basic ups this time around. I found these cuties.
Fork/Spoons/Knives
… They’re plastic! Target party section! Usually I try to do metal eating utensils but not this time. Another place that is great for bougie plastic ware is Party city! They have so many colors that will match your vision well.
Candles
Colored and tall white candles candles
I love colored candles! They are a great touch. Usually I don't light them but this time around I did and they worked great with holders of course! They have a large section of tall colored candles in 3 different sizes. Other places that are options are Anthropologie and World Market. However, the candle section at Hobby Lobby is consistent and year round. Anthro doesn’t always have candles and World Market’s candle section isn’t always full or stocked.
Tiny Glass Candles
I use these all of the time! You can pretty much find these anywhere and they add the perfect warmth to not just the table but the room. These are usually the last to go on the table because it’s easier to disperse and fit them once the other important pieces are all in place. Places I’ve seen these are Target, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn’s, Meijer, Dollar Tree and Walmart.
Gold Candle Holders/Hurricanes
All of the candle holders you see are from Hobby Lobby that I have collected over the years. They have a great section there as well as World Market.
Flowers
Stems Market, Southside Flower Market, Commune GR + Horrocks
Now… to the most important part of this table setting! if you keep up with me you know I LOVE FLOWERS and I buy them every chance I get! They make every space beautiftul. Especially a table setting! This time I decided not to hold back as you can see. I kinda over did it but It looks gorg! As I was picking up my flowers, I stayed within the color scheme but I decided to try multiple different textures. Not just eucalyptus or roses or baby’s breath. Feel free to really experiment. I feel like most flowers are contained in vases but experiment! I placed mine in the middle acting as another layer of the runner. In love the depth this gave and the spurts of color that just brought my entire vision together!
